A few of my followers have recently asked me what they should wear to a wedding as a guest. Depending on the season or type of wedding (destination, hotel, or garden) it is always a good idea to dress formally, wearing an elegant dress or pantsuit. Keep in mind you never want to take attention from the bride or groom. If you’ll be attending a strong religious wedding it obviously would not be a good idea to show a lot of skin.
Wedding attire rules include not wearing white unless that is the dress code on the invite. Men do not wear a black tuxedo, the groom may have his best men dressed in all black. Please leave the club attire at the store ladies. Wedding attire does not include excessive form-fitting dresses, anything too revealing, or low cut clothes. If you are attending a winter or fall wedding consider a festive head to toe dress. You could add a fur coat to a long dress. For summer weddings, you could go short and colorful.
Men, you SHOULD wear a suit to a wedding especially if it’s formal attire. Try other colors besides blacks like navy, grey, burgundy, or materials like velvet for colder seasons. If you don’t want to wear a tie consider a button up or bow tie. After you buy your suit make sure to get it altered to a slim fitting shape.
